My Philosophy
Your Sports and Wellness Dietitian!
Food should be something you enjoy. We eat food every day for various reasons. Partly to fuel our body, but also for celebrations, holidays, and because we love food! My approach is always food first. Supplements can be useful, but food should be the basis. I am not one for strict meal plans. I believe meal plans can be a helpful tool as an example, but the end goal is for you to find a plan that works for you. I incorporate intuitive and mindful eating into my practice. The goal is for you to be able to listen to your body to determine what you need.
The ultimate goal is for you to feel confident in your nutrition whether you are packing for the trail, a climb, or an event.
For those with diabetes, I am here to help you achieve optimal glucose control using real food and mindful eating.
Are you sick of having to call your insurance company and still not knowing what your responsibility will be? For your appointment, you will know exactly what to expect in terms of time and cost.
Most of us know WHAT we should be doing, but why is it so hard to ACTUALLY do it?
I have a few answers…
We know what to do, the hard part is HOW to actually accomplish what we know!
Life is crazy busy!!!! We don't always plan and prep and then bam - we don't have a lunch, we run out the door with toast if we're lucky, and now it's 5pm and we have to workout but holy crap - starving!!!!!
It's not What, it's HOW! I help you through the journey of HOW to accomplish your goals! Whether that be weight gain/loss, gaining lean body mass, becoming stronger, or finding your healthy lifestyle!
I'm Your Dietitian if you are looking for:
Real food
Wanting to eat FOOD again
Tired of the "fear" of food
All foods fit based approach
Fuel your workout with food
To not be starving all.the.time!
You're ready to put the work in
Looking for best practices
Dietitian vs Nutritionist
All Dietitians are Nutritionists; but not all Nutritionists are Dietitians!
Wait! What does that mean?
To be a Nutritionist: I Now call myself a Nutritionist!
Literally the person can just say they are a nutritionist WITHOUT any formal education
To be a Dietitian: formal education - currently has to have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Many dietitians, like myself, have a Masters Degree!!
Dietetic Internship is required - my internship was 1550+ clinical hours
Pass registration exam to be allowed to use the RD (Registered Dietitian) credentials
Many states, like Ohio and Pennsylvania, have Licensure for Dietitians (LD or LDN)
Both the RD and LD require dietitians to do continuing education to be able to renew our licensure. What does that mean? It’s a MUST to stay up to date on all nutrition information! To keep the RD, we HAVE to have a minimum of 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years! To keep licensure (state dependent), for me, at least 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years! WE ARE ALWAYS LEARNING NEW BEST PRACTICES
The ultimate goal - to be well educated to provide YOU the best evidence based research so YOU can crush your nutritional goals safely!
So next time you see someone just call themselves a “Nutritionist” or a “Health Coach” - it’s good to dig deep and see if the individual actually has any credentials and education!
